Sony has been relatively silent about its PlayStation VR2 lately, but it seems that there is the possibility that it changes in the coming weeks. Jeff Grubb in the last installment of Grubbsnax suggested it by offering a possible launch window for the new virtual reality hardware, as well as a suggestion about when Sony could show more headphones and its peripherals. As expected, the speculation about the latter is related to the summer games events that will begin in June.
Towards the end of the Grubbsnax episode, an listener asked Grubb if he had heard any conversation related to PlayStation VR2 and, more specifically, if there was any plan for another great impulse before its launch. Looking back to how the original PlayStation VR was shown during the GDC before it was launched and launched later that same year, Grubb pointed out that the VR2 playstation was shown during this year’s GDC and said it is “very likely” that the hardware launch during the vacations of 2022.
But despite the fact that people are already familiar with PlayStation VR at this point and it is possible that they feel tempted to take off the monitoring headphones of that previous knowledge, it seems that Sony will continue to make another effort for the team before its launch. Grubb said that, according to what he heard, Sony intends to show the VR2 PlayStation “in a more substantial way very soon.”
If Sony soon showed the new virtual reality team, such exhibition would take place during the summer festivities for which all these large playgrounds are preparing. While Xbox and Bethesda have announced plans for a joint exhibition, Sony has not yet said anything about plans for a PlayStation equivalent, so it is not clear at this time to what extent PlayStation plans to show its games and possibly its hardware. A PlayStation VR2 event focused solely on the virtual reality team is not out of discussion, Grubb speculated, but again, nothing has been announced at this time.
Sony’s PlayStation VR2 team does not yet have a release date, but a place has been created where you can register for more information when available.
